Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 28, my grade took a field trip! (I’m in 6th grade) We went to the Museum of Life and Science. The photo at the top is of me, checking out some lemurs. My absolute favorite part was the Butterfly House. It was super fun, and a butterfly even landed on me! I also really liked the treehouse, where my whole grade played tag! (There are about 110 people in my grade) We went around by advisory, and at 11:00 am or so, we did an animal encounter thing, where we saw a snake, a meerkat, and a bearded dragon. It was so cool! That’s basically the summary of my trip. Have you gone?

My Flute

I’m in band this trimester, and my selection was the flute. It’s only a Woodwind band. The other options were clarinet, saxophone, trombone, baritone, and trumpet. I filled out a survey, and chose flute, clarinet, and saxophone. It didn’t really matter to me which instrument I got, but now I’m really happy with my choice. I love to whistle, so it works out. In band right now, we’re learning the song Dragon Dance for our upcoming concert! We already learned Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Final Symphony. Fun fact, Beethoven went deaf after his fourth symphony, but still wrote another 5 entire symphonies! Anyway, our concert is in May, but I’m not sure the total number of songs we’re going to perform. Band is super fun, and I think I might continue the flute, even after band. Do you play any instruments? Tell me in the comments!

My Bucket List

Drawing by me

Here is my bucket list, and I’ll explain as I go along. (I’ll only put 10)

1. Go on the Falcon’s Flight in Saudi Arabia. I want to do this because I love roller coasters, and this is the highest, fastest one ever!

2. Go sky diving. I want to do this because I love thrilling things in general, and it seems super cool.

3. Go to all 7 continents. I want to do this because traveling is super cool and fun. I also want to go to all the countries, but I feel like that isn’t as realistic.

4. See the Northern Lights. This is because they are really pretty, and the science behind them is super cool too.

5. Go bungee jumping. I want to do this because again, I love thrilling things, and this sounds super fun!

6. Live to triple digits. I want to live a long time, and I also just want to be acting super annoying, but be like “I’m old”.

7. Fall in love. I don’t want to be single Pringle forever, you know?

8. Learn how to surf well. I’m really bad at surfing, but sill think it’s super fun.

9.  Win an eating contest. I don’t know, but it’s like you get free food, and all you have to do is eat it fast. I’ve participated once or twice, but I’ve never won. 🙁

10. Cage dive with white sharks. I think this is super cool, and also want to see/experience this, but safely.

Spring Break

I know this is kind of late, but I went to the Philippines for spring break! It was super fun. The photo above shows the sky from the plane. I thought it looked cool at the time, but as I can see, it’s a little blurry coming out. Anyway, in the Philippines, I saw a ton of friends and played bingo, winning some lamps! They’re kind of cool, they’re like baboon lamps. I also learned how to do a front flip on a trampoline! I did the equivalent of a sit-in, or a shadow day, in my old school. It was kind of awkward at the start of the day, but it got better. Those are just some of the great things I did. Anyways, that’s it. Bye!

Tree Planting!

Last week, I went tree planting with my grade! We partnered with an organization called Keep Durham Beautiful. The land was originally donated by John Sprunt Hill. On the opposite side of the park from the Whitted Building was the Algonquin Club. (AL-GON-KWIN) The Algonquin Club was a social club and community center for black residents of Durham. The club hosted tennis tournaments and matches for black tennis players.

After that bit of history, the photo above is of my friends and me while planting the trees. There were 2 groups A and B. We were in A. Unluckily, while B was out it poured, and they came back soaked! My group and I named our tree “Roberta Hornbeam”. It was a hornbeam tree, which explains the name. The process itself was super fun, and we got to massage the roots to loosen them. Anyways, thanks!

Chicks!

We just got baby chicks! They’re super cute, but poop so much. They are learning to fly, so we put up more walls but they keep getting out! They also get shavings into their water and food and i have to be the one to give them more food and water. They’re the best and I highly recommend getting some for yourself!

My Chickens

That picture above is of my chickens! The yellow one is Loudy, who is a Buff Orpington, Spotsy and Dotsy, who are both Plymouth Rocks, and finally Runny, who has black feather tips. In case you couldn’t tell, their names are based on both their personality and physical traits. So creative, I know. But anyway, Loudy, Spotsy, and Dotsy are all about to turn six in February! Runny is a little younger, turning 4 this year. Loudy, Spotsy, and Dotsy are all COVID19 pets, and went through sneezing, coughing, feather pulling, and other fun stuff six-year-olds do when they have no entertainment but some poor chickens! Runny had 3 other chickens in her generation, but 2 of them passed away :(, and the other turned out to be a rooster. For some reason, they love bamboo leaves, and they also love popcorn. This was learned when 1 of the chickens decided to knock over my popcorn bowl and steal it for herself! The other chickens found out, too. When I came back, it was too late! The popcorn was gone forever into the digestive system. Anyway, thanks for reading about my chickens! Tell me in the comments if you have any pets!

SNOW DAY!!!!

It snowed! That is a photo of my deck, and there were even icicles! I plucked one off and ate it, but it didn’t taste that great. It was kind of like eating snow, because snow has a weird taste. It was like that, but much more concentrated. I also went sledding and even built a ramp. My dad and I got some pretty good air, but the land was pretty rough. I have a creek in my backyard, and it froze over! It was so satisfying to break the ice, and when my dad tried to walk on it, it broke. We also sledded down the hill going down to the creek, and that was pretty fun too. Tell me in the comments what you did on your snow day, if it snowed for you!

HELP

Hi! This is a photo I drew during LA, and don’t worry, I’m fine. I drew it while I was doing IXL, and while waiting for the questions to load, I made the most beautiful drawing ever. I found an old pack of sticky notes, and the pencil shavings darkened the edges and made it look a bit bleak. That is the story of how my beautiful HELP drawing came to be.
